An archaeologist of high repute : Vendyl (Indiana) Jones
Archaeologist and theologian of high repute, Vendyl Jones devoted his life to demonstrate the veracity and historicity of the biblical episodes. Through his works and research, he encourages thus humanity as a whole, to adhere to the Seven Universal Laws of its ancestor Noah. The history of the man inspired the American movie maker Steven Spielberg for the scenario of a hollywoodian success " Indiana Jones and the adventurers of the lost ark ".
A vocation dedicated to the respect of God
Vendyl Jones was born on May 29, 1930 in Texas, in the town of Sudan where he grew up. At the age of sixteen, a vocation surfaces within the young man : he knows from now on that his whole life will be dedicated to the accomplishment of the divine will. Jones thus orients his studies in this direction. During his academic training, the field of biblical archaeology impassions him progressively. After having fulfilled the functions as Priest at the Baptist Church of Dungan, Vendyl Jones settles in Greenville and undertakes his training in Jewish studies within the Talmud Torah of the city. He consequently, applies himself to understand the divine message as conveyed by the sacred texts. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls crystallizes the passion of the man for the biblical message and involves him in a personal quest which will make him famous.
A mythical character at the service of Israel's greatness
In April 1967, Vendyl Jones settles in Israel accompanied by all his family. He continues his studies at the department of Judaïca within Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It is only then that he will become acquainted with the archaeological dimension of the Jewish State. Jones thus integrates the teams for the excavations at Qumran. He gradually manages to conduct by himself excavations of great width. Since 1972, the archaeologist led a whole of eight excavations of most impressive import with the participation of several hundreds of voluntary participants. During his work, he discovers in particular during the month of April 1988 the composition of the ointing oil " Shemen Hafarcemon ", quoted in the Bible. This exceptional discovery is relayed throughout the media of the whole world. For the first time, an object dating from the period of the First Temple is found… From this episode, the entire work of Vendyl Jones will be devoted to the demonstration of the historical exactitude of the biblical account.
Vendyl Jones or the campaign for the Seven Laws of Noah
Through the Institute of Research Vendyl Jones, our archaeologist diffuses a campaign for the respect of the Seven Laws of Noah. He addresses thus all humanity without distinction of race or social status. With that intention, Jones met throughout his life eminent rabbis among whom Rabbi Ménahem Mendel Chneerson who blesses his work at the time of a meeting in July 1990. He continues his fight by diffusing each year a publication of about a hundred pages gathering all the studies of specialists and rabbis of high repute.
